Summer Touch Competition

A touch competition for Year 7 and 8 students and Year 9-11 students is currently being organised to be held over the summer period.

Attached is an entry pack with rules etc and organisers are keen to get as many players involved as possible.

Some clubs may see this as good pre-season training, although teams can be school/club based or can just be some mates.

The aim of the touch is to promote being active, having fun and hopefully for some to practice their skills.

Please read attachment for details, and contact details for organisers and cut off dates.

South Westland v Marist

Spectators were treated to a hard fought, challenging game between Marist and South Westland on Saturday down in Hari Hari. Both teams have some extremely talented players, and this meant that players had to work hard for every try, and rip.

Niall Alexander was a stand out player for South Westland with 4 tries, with Sara Jewell and Noah Treanor with a brace and Tom Hodges and Isla Scott with one try each. Caleb Staples, George O’Brien and Emily Hodges ran the ball up well. For Marist, Isaiah Sheehan-Priest crossed the line 3 times, Griffin Thomas and player of the day, Wil van der Geest, twice and Ruby Rae-Wood and Eamon O’Keefe once. The four senior players and O’Keefe all had outstanding games, showing some excellent attacking and defensive skills.

Korban Bellis earned himself Most Improved Player by being more involved and showing great confidence in taking the ball up. Cullam Moles also played well, exhibiting excellent speed and drive. Sam and Mitchell Harris supported their team-mates really well and always had a smile on their face. Sam is working really hard on defence and made some determined rips.

Both teams have made massive improvements this season and their games are great to watch!

Marist assistant coach Rachel Van Der Geest, said "There are definitely some future All Blacks/Black Ferns in this team".

Under 12's
Marist v Grey Valley

Marist U/12s played their semi finals game against a fire up Grey Valley team at Karoro on Saturday, and came away with a hard fought victory.

Players to stand out were Marist's 2nd Five Chester Mama who in combination with centre Geroge Rubbo cut through the Grey Valley backline, with Rubbo scoring a hat trick of tries.

Also on the score sheet were Patrick Bell (2 tries), Tyla Foster, William Clark, Chester Mama and Quinn Blanchfield.

Player of the day was Chester Mama, back of the day was Tyla Foster, whilst forwards of the day were Quinn Blanchfield and Liam Williamson.

Wests v South Westland

Wests lost 30-19 to South Westland in their semi final game on Saturday. Up against a much bigger forward pack, Wests never stopped trying to run around or though them.

Player of the day went to Jack McLoughlin with trys to Jamie Garland,Sean Foster and Braden Thomas.
