I advise the senior competition will commence on the 22 April 2017 with the final to be played on the 15 July 2017 with a spare weekend set down for the 29 July in case of cancellations. The Dittman Shield fixture has been set down for 22 July 2017 however if a round had to be cancelled then the final would shift to 22 July and the Dittman Shield fixture cancelled.<\/span><\/p>\n

This competition will consist of Two rounds with the month of March available for pre season fixtures to be organised by clubs. Find attached the 2017 West Coast Rugby senior club championship draw for senior fixtures through to the Heartland pre season window. Heartland Championship draw still to be confirmed.<\/span><\/p>\n

Competition rules will be circulated at a later date.<\/span><\/p>\n

Could all clubs please advise of any pre-season fixtures already arranged.<\/span><\/p>\n

Senior competition rules \/ trophies 2017<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

2017 West Coast Rugby Union – Club Draw<\/span><\/h2>\n

Trophies:<\/em><\/span>
\n The New Forrest Cup <\/strong><\/span>
\n will be awarded to the top team at the end of round one (22 April \u2013 20 May).<\/span><\/p>\n

The Muir Trophy<\/strong><\/span>
\n will be awarded to the top West Coast team at the end of the second round from 27 May \u2013 1 July .<\/span><\/p>\n

For this trophy all teams will start the round with nil competition points.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following the Muir Trophy round the competition points allocated for The New Forrest Cup round and the Muir Trophy will be combined together to compile the team positions for the allocation of semi \u2013 final play-off positions.<\/span><\/p>\n

New Forrest Cup<\/strong><\/span>
\n If teams are tied on competition points at the end of the round then the trophy will be awarded to the tied teams with the better points differential.<\/span><\/p>\n

If tied teams end up with the same points differential then the winner will be the team that won the fixture between the tied teams.<\/span><\/p>\n

If the fixture between those teams ended in a draw then the trophy will be shared.<\/span><\/p>\n

Muir Trophy<\/strong><\/span>
\n If teams are tied on competition points at the end of the round then the trophy will be awarded to the tied team with the better points differential.<\/span><\/p>\n

If tied teams end up with the same points differential then the winner will be the team that won the fixtures between the tied teams.<\/span><\/p>\n

If the fixtures between those teams ended in a draw then the trophy will be shared.<\/span><\/p>\n

Points<\/strong><\/span>
\n These will be awarded throughout all games on the basis of four points a win, two points a draw.<\/span><\/p>\n

A bonus will be awarded for: (A) a team scoring four tries in a match and (B) a team losing by seven points or less.<\/span><\/p>\n

Defaults<\/strong><\/span>
\n In the event of a default game the non defaulting team will be awarded the maximum points allocated in the round of the day with a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5.<\/span><\/p>\n

NOTE:<\/strong><\/em><\/span>
\n If a defaulting team has failed to meet travel obligations that obligation will carry over to the next time the same two sides are due to play each other.<\/span><\/p>\n

Semi-finals (8 July)<\/strong><\/span>
\n Semi final format<\/span>
\n This year team 1 will play team 4 and team 2 will play team 3 with the two winners playing for the Taylorville\/Wallsend Cup on finals day.<\/span><\/p>\n

Team 5 will play team 6 for the McLean Shield<\/strong><\/span>

In the event of teams being on equal aggregate points New Forrest Cup and Muir Trophy) at the completion of the Muir Trophy round the points for and against differential will be used for seeding purposes.<\/span><\/p>\n

If in the situation the points differential is the same then the seeding will be decided by the toss of a coin.<\/span><\/p>\n

Finals day (15 July)<\/strong><\/span>
\n Format as per attached fixtures list<\/span>
\n The Taylorville – Wallsend Cup goes to the winner of the main grand final.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the event of a draw in semi final and final fixtures find attached format to decide winners together with rules for rules for abandoned fixtures.<\/span><\/p>\n

ARTHUR FONG TROPHY – RULES<\/strong><\/span>
\n 1. Trophy is up for challenge every competition game, home or away by the holder.<\/span><\/p>\n

This includes semi finals and finals provided the teams holding the trophy are actually competing in these fixtures.<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Draw result goes in favour of team holding trophy.<\/span>
\n 3. Team holding trophy automatically lose it if they default the game.<\/span>
\n 4. Trophy game to be clearly listed on fixtures list each week.<\/span>
\n 5. Trophy to be on display on the sideline before and during game.<\/span>
\n 6. When the trophy changed hands the losing captain is to present the trophy to the winning captain at the conclusion of the game.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is the West Coast Rugby Union’s responsibility to ensure that team coaches and management have attended all safety courses as per the NZRU regulations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Presently our RDO Rob Maitland is undertaking these courses, so he needs all details of club coaching staff to ensure all have attended.<\/span><\/p>\n

Finally if club coaches do not attend then those clubs will be prevented from playing in the competition until these courses have been completed.<\/span><\/p>\n
