Jonty scored 2 tries, 1 of which was a runaway try from his own half.

Caleb Beri had a blinder of a game on both attack and defense and he helped to set up several tries.

Allan Harris and Martin Schist also had great games.

The team significantly improved from the week before and demonstrated the skills we knew that they had.

The weather held out and it was a great game for spectators to watch.

From – Teena Vincent

Sth Westland under 10 rugby

Was our first game for the season and we played Wests at Walker Park. Down in numbers Marist shared 4 players to make up the even sides, a good sporting gesture by Marist.

Marist dominated the first half and crossed the West’s line on several times to take a healthy lead.

At the break Dean and Colin made a change to the Game Plan and with Deanna’s oranges produced a turn of form. Billie Crombie(first year of Rugby) gave a great display of tackling. Jake Redpath with his hard running and the support of brother Ali crossed the line on 3 occasions. Dominic Dando was Player of the Day and scored 3 tries. Senior Team Management (Dicey, Lyn and Mike) would be excited with the future potential. Form improvement from Daniel von Ah (a try) and the breakdown support of Mackenzie Sutherland and Luke Schwartz made good ball available for the try scores. The hard working cousin combination of Aiden Routhan and Spencer Kelly contributed to the marginal final score off 13 – 11 to Wests.

Thanks to Marist for the social time after the game.

Report by Bernie Lee President Wests Rugby Club.

Wests U14’s

Wests Under 14 team, in only their second game of the season, produced a fantastic all-round team effort to overcome the travelling Westport team. The final score was 47 points to Wests, 12 to Westport. The game was played at Cass Square, the conditions of the ground were really good, considering the rain we had during the week leading up.

With a strong forward performance from Jack Eason, Nate Mckewen and Arnie Gibbens leading the way in the tight. They were well supported by Liam Renton, Jordan Hopper, Coby Foster and Makaira Lepaio.

Caleb Harris had a great running game, and this allowed the backs to show their silky skills.

With Kirk Magner doing a very good job at half-back, and giving good service to Leyton Foster, Leyton made some dazzling runs himself which set the rest of the Wests backs alight. These backs to stand out were Jacob Jarris, Cameron Climo and Tipene Patena-Fortune.

Luke Jelly tackled well, with support from Toby Lilley and James Bradley.

Player of the day was Jack Eason.

Sportsmanship award went to Cameron Climo.

Report by Corrina Foster

Sth Westland under 8 Report

Another great game with improvements by players already showing in week 2.
