Blaketown Dragons vs Marist
On Saturday Marist U 6’s played the Blaketown Dragons at the new Marist ground. Conditions were difficult with high winds and a bit of rain. The players were undeterred and gave the spectators an exciting game.
It was a high scoring game that saw the Blaketown Dragons and Marist fight out a close game to leave the scores tied a 30pts each.
Blaketown Dragons had some great tries from Brayden Williams, Nikau Prendergast, Sophia Vaaelua, Jayden Richardson, Sam Drawbridge and Will Taylor. All players had a great game with players of the day going to Sam Drawbridge and Jayden Richardson.
Marist’s Players of the Day, Billie Hampton and Max Walklin, both had consistent games on both attack and defence with Walklin also crossing the try line. Other players to stand out were Seamus Sheehan-Priest and Eamon O’Keefe, both scoring tries along with Mackley Fahey, Elliot van der Geest and Korban Bellis.
Blaketown White Knights vs Grey Valley
This week Blaketown white knights under 6 played Grey Valley..What an exciting game to watch. Tries were scored by Lachlan Oliver, Jai Englebretson, Skylah Hartill, Sascha Kissell and two amazing tries from young wee Jonathan Seifert. Lachlan Oliver chased all game and ripped every tag that went past him. Arli Robson had some great runs but Grey Valley were too quick for him.
Jonathan Seifert was named as the player of the day.
This was a high scoring game that saw the teams finish with a score of 35-35 Very proud of Blaketown white knights all the children played like stars:) well done team.
Wests v Marist
This game was played at Karoro grounds, home of the Marist rugby club. In the first half of the game both teams attacked and ran hard towards the tryline. Conner Greig for Wests led by example with some great attacking play with also equally good defence in tackling. Other players to stand out for the Wests team were Cameron Smith, George Rea, Patrick Van Beek, Jonty Robertson,Conner Jones and Lachlan Baird.
The second half was the same but with Wests applying the pressure and ending up winning by two tries. Again it was great to see so many parents and Grandparents to come and support the kids on the rugby field. Players of the day for Wests went to Conner Greig and Cameron Smith.
Try scorers for Marist were Antonio ver hoeven with 3 tries, Will van der Geest and Griffin Thomas both scoring two tries each. Ruby Rae-Wood played well and was most improved player with Player of day going to Antonio ver Hoeven for an awesome game. Sam Harris, Sean Bain and Cullam Moles all had good runs while Joshua Robbins was persistent and tireless throughout the game.
South Westland v Grey Valley

Grey Valley hosted South Westland in Ikamatua on Saturday. After a long journey the South Westland Boys were full of energy running out the winners 35 -10 in an entertaining and free flowing game.
South Westland showed good continuity and off loading skills in the tackle, which resulted in some well taken tries. Leading try scorers for South Westland were Man of the Match Harry Friend, Co- Captain Tom Hodges and Ethan Lash.
For a galliant Grey Valley team, Flynn Wyatt was a stand out player, with a Man of the Match display scoring 2 tries.
Kiwi v Blaketown
A tough game against Kiwi in cold conditions at McLean park. Blaketown had to work hard for their tries but Will England (2), Reilly Seifert (2), Kaleb Steel and Eva Sexton were successful. Eva winning the Player of the Day for her strong running with the ball and always being in support.Blaketown had to make plenty of tackles to stop Kiwi dominance, Mackenzie Clark, Felix Gillam, Liam Belcher and Calib Arneson were amongst the action. Kiwi were too strong for Blaketown running out as convincing winners.

Marist vs Sth Westland
A strong Marist unit overcame a gallant South Westland 40-5 at Hari Hari. Despite having a lot of smaller players South Westland ran the ball at every opportunity and went so close to crossing the line on several occasions.
For Marist, forward of the day Harry Robb made some smashing runs up field with Geordie Gibson and Sam Welsford not far behind.
Rem Thompson carried on his improving form from last year whilst Riley Fairhall is learning with every game.
The backs benefited from lots of fast ball with Jonathan Watts and Matthew Robbins crossing several times while player of the day Mero Williams was unlucky not to score. Others to score were Dominic Moles, Mac Gibson, Derek Chizuni and back of the day Ollie Robb.
South Westland v Marist
South Westland had too much pace for Marist winning 42 – 5. Jack Olsen barged over to score the only try for Marist finishing a good period of driving play. Palm Promma impressed at halfback showing urgency and good all round play and Caleb Mahuika chased hard and tackled well (earning themselves players of the day). Good attacking play and numerous line breaks were stopped short of the try line by a solid South Westland defence. Marist never gave up trying, and finished the game strongly.

Wests v Kiwi
Wests Under 12 rugby team versed Kiwis team on Saturday 20th at Westland High School.
It was a tough game. Wests played with determination throughout the game, and their commitment paid off in the end.
The forwards never gave up in the scrums. Jack Eason and Jake VanBeek toiled away. While the backs had some great passing, managing to get the ball out wide on several occasions, which in turn lead to scoring. It was a real team effort.
The first half was closer, with Wests and Kiwis both scoring. After the half time break, the game opened up and Wests combined well to get more points on the board. Caleb Reeves found the gaps and scored a handy try in the second half. Other try scorers for Wests were Blake Robinson, Kalin Nieper, Leyton Foster, Kieran Black, Jamie Garland and Jarrod Gillespie.
Players of the day for Wests were Jarrod Gillespie and Kieran Black. Both these players tackled hard all the game.
Blaketown vs Wests
Blaketown played well against a bigger and well drilled wests team. West put the first points on the board. Taylor McInroe put blaketowns first points on the board by running the length of the field and scoring under the post. Blacktowns smaller forwards played well against the larger west pack. Andrew McCallum Tas Bentley and Blake Gray tackled hard all game. Eve Findlay from the under 12’s played an excellent game and should have been rewarded with a try after a great run from half way only to be stopped a metre from the try line. Blaketown vs Wests
It was a losing battle for Blaketown U16’s on the weekend. For Wests, a resounding success with a score of 58-0. Wests played well, Blaketown just weren’t up to standard on the day.
