Mike Gunter is an awesome young man who celebrated his 21st birthday in September this year (2015). He is extremely hard working and over the last three years has thrown himself into pilot training, successfully gaining his private and commercial license and recently completing his mountain flying. Mike was about to begin his first flying job a few weeks ago but continued migraines over the last few weeks delayed his departure.
The last three years have not been easy for Mike or his family. On 20th November 2012 Mike lost his younger brother Matt, only 10 days before his 16th Birthday. Tragically Matt’s death was avoidable and came about through a series of circumstances after a routine surgery to remove his appendix. Although we could not change Matt’s outcome we do have an opportunity to change Mikes.
Unbelievably on the 3rd anniversary of his Brother’s death, Mike himself was diagnosed with an aggressive, malignant brain tumour. After being airlifted to Christchurch hospital and stabilized the tumour was successfully removed. The biopsy of the tumor has revealed the cancer is a grade IV glioblastoma multiforme. Unfortunately in New Zealand there is limited treatment available and what is available merely slows down the re growth of the tumour.
This page has been set up to help us get Mike to Germany for the lifesaving treatment he needs.
