Marist Under 6

First game of the season got under way on Saturday. We have a fantastic contingency of kids this year for Marist Under 6 to make up a mix of two teams each week. Marist Red & Marist Green. This week the opener games was vrs Wests White & Wests Black held at Marist home Grounds.

Amazing team work shown throughout the games. Lots of distance making running and passing. And brilliant defensive ripping.

Fast exciting action that had everyone on the side lines very proud. Very difficult to select two players for Player Of Day.

Tane Masters POD for great amount of defensive rips and huge amount of commitment to team for Marist Red, and Taj Atkinson POD for strong & consistant defensive ripping all game for Marist Green.

Wests under 8

Wests under 8 made a fine start to the season against Blaketown.  With Spencer Kelly, Billy Crombie , Aiden Routhan and Ali Redpath enjoying their first game playing tackle rugby.  Rocco von Ah was awarded Player of the Day for his runaway try scoring and commitment to tackling.

Dominic Dando also made some fantastic tries and tackled well.  Along with Luke Schwartz and Jake Redpath these older boys set a good example to the younger boys.  The team showed good sportsmanship, team spirit and determination and are looking good to have a great season.

South Westland U8’s

Great game by all the team on their first outing. Grey Valley put up a great team with a lot of speed and experience, South Westland responded with awesome tackles from Jack Gregge, Bear Clough & Brayden Mitchell.

Oliver Blackburn scored the only try for South Westland backed up with great team work by all the team.

Under 14 Rugby

It was a pleasing start to the season for the Wests Under 14 team on Saturday at Karoro Grounds.

Wests scored within the opening five minutes with a great finishing touch from Leyton Foster to scoot down the blind and score the try.

Then it took another 20 minutes for the Wests team to shake off the cobwebs and start to find their structure and create good space out wide.

Not taking anything away from Marist who defended stoutly and made Wests defend as well in that 20 minute period. For the opening game of the year there were some great skills shown.

Wests whole team came together well to take away the win. Out wide Liam Renton and Cameron Climo made some good runs.

Tipene Patena-Fortune, Kaleb Harris and Robert Kihi also tackled well and made some good breaks with the ball in hand.

Player of the day went to Liam Renton, and the Sportsmanship award went to Coby Foster. The final score was 35 points to Wests, 0 to Marist.
