West Coast Heartland Rugby representative Troy Tauwhare has further been rewarded for his sparkling form in 2013, with selection for the Crusader Knights trial and camp to take place on February 15th and 16th at Lincoln University.
Tauwhare was selected for the New Zealand Heartland XV last year, and now will experience an amazing opportunity to have a total look at the Crusaders methods and their professional standards of play.
Former West Coast assistant coach and current Crusader Knights scrum coach Jason Ryan says the trial brings the best young talent together within the Crusaders franchise, along with Crusaders wider training group players, NZ under 20 trialists and will be an intensity Troy have never experienced before. “I know for a fact Troy has been training the house down, including scoring a very impressive 17.5 on the yo yo fitness test, which is the standard for ITM Cup front rowers.”
“Opportunities like this don’t come around very often and I’m sure the West Coast will see the benefits it will bring and this is definitely reward for the great season he had for the Coast last year, I wish him all the best” Ryan said.
West Coast R.F.U chairman Colin Smith said this was indicative of the career paths beyond our Union available to rugby players on the West Coast. “As our rugby history shows, West Coaster’s can “foot it with the best” when they have the determination to do so such as Troy has shown” Smith said.
If selected, Tauwhare will play matches against the Blues, Hurricanes and Highlanders development sides throughout February and March.
