After an outstanding series of performances at the recent New Zealand Marist Sevens tournament in Wellington, Greymouth Marist halfback Hugo Torres has been selected for the New Zealand Marist Sevens team to travel to Samoa and compete in the Vailima Marist Samoa Sevens tournament later this month.
Torres who arrived from his native France in late January to play the 2015 season with Marist, has quickly impressed both his new club mates as well as New Zealand Marist selectors, with his speed, agility and all round skill set.
New Zealand Marist Sevens manager Tony Meachen said Torres will be a very welcomed addition to the squad to tour Samoa later this month, and his experience will be invaluable to his side. “Hugo was a great success at our Wellington event recently, and both us and Greymouth Marist are very lucky to have him on board, and we know he’ll have a lot to offer with his exciting brand of Rugby and French flair”.
Torres himself was very surprised by the call up, and very excited to be selected for the New Zealand Marist side. “I came here to improve my Rugby, and experience the legendary New Zealand Rugby culture, so this is a huge honour for me, and I look forward to representing my Marist club with pride at the tournament in Samoa”.
The tournament gets underway in Lotopa on February 26th, and features teams from all over the South Pacific.
