3rd / 4th and 5th October 2013
JUNIOR REPRESENTATIVE RUGBY
South Island Tournament Westport
Today’s game against Buller, the West Coast team played a very physical game, holding out a passionate Buller team for the first 15 mins, Coast then turning some constructive forward play into a well deserved try to hard working lock Patrick Hanrahan, converted by Ben Alexander.
Coasts next try went to consistent prop Will Daly, converted by Ben Alexander. Buller’s only try came from a lack of commitment from Coast to catch the ball from a Buller kick off, two quick phases later the try was scored under the post and converted. Next try to coast was to Brandon Maitland, after a kick thru and good chase, half time score 19-7 to West Coast.
The second half was physically contested, most play was in the Buller half by good tactical kicking from Ben Alexander, who was served well from half back Taylor Robinson. Josh Tomlinson and Quintin Tauwhare played to their usual high standard of great tackling and contesting at the breakdown, the Coast pressure lead to another good try by lock Patrick Hanrahan.
Final score 24-7, a well deserved win to Coast, coach Kevin Church was very proud of way the team pro formed and looking forward to competing against Marlborough in the plate final.
